Disney Springs: Downtown Reimagined
By: Shannon Watson •
If you’ve ever spent any time at Walt Disney World, you’ve probably visited the shopping, dining, and entertainment district formerly known as Downtown Disney. While there are still major renovations underway—Planet Hollywood likely being the most obvious—Disney Springs is currently delighting both high-end shoppers and window-browsing tourists on a budget with its new look.
For those driving into Disney Springs, you’ll be happy to know that parking will not only cost you nothing, but the two main garages—named Orange and Lime—are incredibly easy to use. Digital displays tell you exactly how many parking spots are available on each floor and each row, so there’s no need to drive endlessly up and down rows hoping you’ll find an open slot. And, of course, there’s complimentary Disney transportation for people staying at a Disney resort: grab a bus, take a walk over to Saratoga Springs, or even ride one of the free water taxis. (Be aware that the very cool Amphicars you may see “driving” by in the water are not included in Disney’s free transportation.)
Shopping opportunities are abundant. Most of the merchandise available inside the parks can be found at the World of Disney store located just a few steps from the exit leading out of the Lime parking garage, from Minnie ears headbands to Star Wars t-shirts. And, if you’re looking for something more upscale, the new mall at Disney Springs features retailers you might even see on Rodeo Drive—Kate Spade, Vince Camuto, and Ugg, just to name a few.
And, no Disney experience would be complete without food! While you probably won’t find the famous Dole Whip or Mickey ice cream treats you see in the parks, you won’t be lacking for choices at Disney Springs. From dark chocolate cupcakes bought at Sprinkles’ musical “cupcake ATM”, to traditional Irish fare accompanied by live music at Raglan Road and so much more, the only question you’ll need to ask is, “What do I feel like having today?”
So, what will YOU do with your time at Disney Springs? Catch a performance of Cirque du Soleil? Go bowling at Splitsville? Have dinner and a movie at the AMC theater? Or make the most of the many dining and shopping opportunities? Maybe all of the above!
