By: Sabrina Orlov •
Colorado is known for it's outdoor lifestyle and as a playground for tourists in all seasons for skiing, rafting, and other outdoor sports. It seems appropriate therefore that the state become home to the nation's first adventure tourism graduate program at Colorado State University.
Enrollment in the University's new program allows students to earn a graduate degree in business behind adventure tourism. "It couldn't be more perfect," said Mark Gasta, associate professor and program director "It is our state's brand. We are an iconic place for adventure. It's only fitting we are the first.". The classes focus on topics such as safety and guest services, policy and planning including permitting, marketing concepts and applications.
The program is designed to teach the skills needed to develop and manage different adventure tourism offerings including motorcycle and rafting trips to heli-skiing and fishing trips.
